Why we're deep cleaning
Vickie is in full on frantic mode after another death in the family. Cleaning, baking, gutting, rearranging - just to keep her hands busy. All the beagles are downstairs joining in on the podcast because the stand up freezer is defrosting upstairs and it seems like a bad idea to let them near that.

New podcast guest
The Morgans are joined by a brand new guest this week - a mannequin named Vicky who was generously donated to the team from friends at iDesign - Craig and Allison. Our Vickie had mentioned on the show last week that she wanted to make more Oxford shirts and a dress form would come in handy.

Polar vortex
Newfoundland has been warned about a polar vortex. There seem to be super bright sunny parts of a polar vortex then switching to blinding snowstorms then back to clear and sunny all within fifteen minutes of each other.

Office Ladies
Josh has been listening to the Office Ladies podcast on the bus on the way to school and he heard a story about Creed being an extra who accidently got a line and was then written into the show.

Sneaker story
While at the local mall, Vickie spotted some sneakers she liked in a display case outside Urban Planet and the sales clerk turned the place upside down trying to find keys to sell the only pair they had left. She then had to climb up into the display from two panels down the line and just didn't quit with the helpfulness. The sneakers look like old Brooks style from the 90s and turned out to be from two seasons prior and were only $10 and didn't fit but it was too nice to say no thanks after all that effort. If anyone needs a pair of size 6 shoes from Urban Planet, get in touch.
25:09 Decluttering
The gang tried a new way to clean. They started with the kitchen cupboards and took absolutely everything out and enjoyed the empty space for a few minutes. Then one by one put things back that someone in the house would buy if they saw it in a store. In other words, things that 'sparked joy' as Marie Kondo would say. There were a couple of nostalgia items but for the most part most of the stuff they couldn't even remember bringing into the house.
Vickie recalls Great Aunt Linda helping Josh's grandmother clean out the basement and asking for every tiny little item "Do you want to keep this?" until Granny finally said I'll finish this myself.
Decluttering is exhausting because there's an emotional attachment to so many things that take up space. Best advice is to use the clean cupboard method. Empty it completely. Honour the space and don't put back crap that doesn't deserve your attention. This could be used for most things in life.

Shrinking
Turns out Brett Goldstein is a writer on the show Shrinking. Vickie and Josh were such big fans of Ted Lasso and Josh saw some clips on Tiktok of this new show Shrinking with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford and it sparked an interest so they're completely hooked now. No spoilers please.

Josh's suspension
Right after graduation with a Master's degree in education, Josh recalls working at a school in a rural town in Maine that he's pretty sure Stephen King based all his horror stories on. He was told early on that all his positive reinforcement mumbo jumbo from his fancy book learning wouldn't work in these parts. You'll have to listen in for the end of that story. HINT: there was an article in the local newspaper about it.

· Adult Learning is Self Directed: Many people underestimate the value of their self-taught knowledge but personal experience and passion often make the best resources.
· You Can Write About Anything: From beekeeping to building stuff, your experiences can be turned into a book to help others learn faster and avoid common mistakes.
· The Writing Process Can Be Daunting: Formatting issues, ISBNs and tax details can be overwhelming but once you learn the process it becomes easier.
·
Coaching and
Resources Help: Having a guidebook or resource can make
self publishing easier and you may want to consider a coach for one-on-one
consultations. (For example, Vickie Morgan 709-400-1784 or use the contact form
