1:43 Uncle
Bernard
Vickie has notes for the show written on a torn off flap from a veggie straw box and is reminded of a very successful man who did something similar and was an actual millionaire. There's a documentary about him called Million Dollar View.
13:21 New creations
This podcast segment focuses on how crafting, particularly crochet and knitting, can positively affect mental well being. The hosts share personal stories of using creative activities to engage their minds and find joy, even amidst challenges.
-
Creative Engagement: Vickie talks about a recent crochet project of making a unique bag without a pattern. The process of figuring out the design and switching crochet hooks kept her brain active and engaged, which she finds helpful for mental well being. The act of crafting allows her to concentrate, occupy her thoughts and escape from stress.
-
Learning New Skills: Vickie talks about learning new techniques such as making a top down sweater and experimenting with yarns that change color. The challenge of learning something new, like working with bigger knitting needles or unconventional materials helps stimulate the brain keeping it active during winter when other activities are more limited.
-
Creativity and Mental Health: They note that crafting isn't just a hobby—it provides a sense of accomplishment and a tangible result from hard work which contributes positively to mental health. The process of making something by hand, whether it's a bag or a sweater, helps maintain focus and offers a productive outlet for energy, especially in colder months when mental health can sometimes be more challenging.
-
Sharing and Community: The hosts mention how platforms like TikTok and Instagram allow crafters to share their creations, creating a sense of community. This sharing can inspire others and provide a sense of connection which can be beneficial for emotional well being.
In essence crafting is a powerful tool for staying mentally engaged, fostering creativity, learning new skills and creating a sense of achievement and community - essential for good mental health.
26:34 Big musical weekend
Vickie got to perform with some local musicians she was pretty excited about. Right place, right time, ready to roll.
32:08 Nateland money
There are two episodes of the Nateland podcast about money that Vickie and Josh have enjoyed recently as they catch up on the 200+ backlog. Highly recommend them if you are wondering how to manifest more abundance in your life. At the very least you'll have a good laugh listening to the episodes which raises your vibration and we could all use a boost.
40:01 Are You Mad at Me?
Vickie shares an experience where she worked for a local theater company as a server and was asked to move over to do some marketing for the company but was expected to do it IN BETWEEN SERVING TABLES. She left the job after just one shift and the following week almost got mowed down in the Costco parking lot by the same person who she had fought with the week prior. Like slammed on the brakes to avoid colliding with Vickie and her family walking in the crosswalk 'almost got mowed down'.
56:06 Tell the therapist the truth
If you have gone to therapy you may have recognized by now that some of the stuff that weighs you down isn't ENTIRELY your fault and there may be one or two (or a thousand) contributing factors in your life and relationships that aren't going so well.
Have you ever had someone ask to speak with your therapist because they think you're not telling the truth in your sessions? Leave us a comment. We'd love to hear your therapy horror stories! (Hopefully you don't have any but if you do, spill the Tetley!)
